An eye-catching addition has been made to the new Gablecross roundabout for drivers travelling from the east.
The horse sculpture made from cold cast iron now stands proud at two metres tall on the roundabout itself.
Artist Holly Hickmore decided to sculpt a horse because the animals "majestically illustrates Swindon’s strong heritage as a farming town".
The Plough Horse was commissioned as part of the New Eastern Villages development and financed by Section 106 funding.
This means that this money is at no cost to the taxpayer and was specifically allocated for public art and cannot be distributed elsewhere.
The mounds which the horse is placed on was designed by Trudi Entwistle.
The Gablecross roundabout junction takes drivers along the A420 into and out of Swindon. Other exits on that roundabout include Thornhill Road and the road to Sainsbury's.
Work on the roundabout began early in 2021.
Swindon Borough Council intended to make the roundabout larger and to adding traffic signals so that there would be "sufficient capacity" to deal with higher levels of traffic.
