MORE than 300 litres of diesel has been spilt into a Swindon stream.
Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service contained the spillage from a leaking storage tank in Oakhurst Way, Oakhurst, using absorbent booms and mats to stop the fuel entering the water supply.
Builders working in the surrounding building sites helped stem the spill by building a temporary dam using sandbags.
They also helped firemen isolating nearby storm drains to stop the diesel from filtering into the River Ray.
Three appliances from Westlea, Swindon and Stratton attended the scene. A drain cleaner from Swindon Borough Council also helped the clean-up operation.
The Environment Agency has said that no fish have yet been found dead.
Agency officers are investigating the environmental impact of the spill and say future courses of action will be determined in the coming days.
The diesel went into Tadpole Brook but did not make its way into the River Ray.
