Review TrickBabies and Charred Hearts The Bell, High Street, Old Town, Swindon For a debut gig the TrickBabies had a storming start giving a taster of some original lush, rocky blues tunes.

It is a pretty dynamic mix with the formidable guitar of Pat Luscz and the thunderclap drumming of Marco Ribeiro richocheting across the bar.

Pat is the mastermind behind the band and pens most of the songs.

The set has a freshness and distinctive sound, that although born of rock foundations, heads off into a fantasy feel of misty montains and lurking monsters.

When you get such charismatic musicians in one band it can be a clash of personalities or it can gel into something magical with the TrickBabies it is pure sorcery.

Lead singer, Steve Baker, has a gorgeous voice and the right look but he needs to wrestle the the limelight and engage with the crowd a little more.

It will come with time. This was the first gig and to fight the focus away from two such strong contenders as Pat and Marco, who are naturals on stage, is tough.

The other newcomer to the band is Jeff Norfolk on bass who held his own admirably, slotting in with Marco's inventive drumming to the manor born.

Opening for these guys was one of Pat's old pals Dermot Fuller with his band Charred Hearts.

Anyone who has ever seen these guys perform knows that they are in for a big show.

Dermot was born to be on stage, he grabs the mic and the crowd by the throat the second he steps on stage.

This is an unashamed, upfront punk band.

I know some are taken aback by Dermot's colourful metaphors but it is all part of the show and anti-establishment feel of being punk.

back in the day these guys were Swindon's answer to the Sex Pistols and they are up their recreating that era in all its technicolour glory.

Loud, proud and gloriously over the top, the guys ripped through a thunderous set of their own songs that had all the respected businesmen, fathers and IT buffs recalling their teens with sheer delight.

Great night of music that rang my bell.
