I got it wrong with you I know,
Wrong choices I have made,
But life could be oh, so much worse,
If here was where you stayed.
It's so much clearer to me now,
No love to shade my vision.
Rose tinted glasses are removed,
I have just one clear mission.
I'll take good care of me and mine,
On me they can rely.
Maybe they'll know how much they're loved,
And have no cause to cry.
You thought that I would not survive,
Without you by my side.
I've realised I'm better off,
Real love will be my guide.
Thought I would never see the day,
I didn't want you back,
We'll make a fine tomorrow now,
Our future's right on track.
It seems not getting what we want,
Is sometimes for the best,
It takes some time to understand,
Life's tough endurance test.
Not sure just who will fail or pass,
This test of life we face,
Priorities and values too,
Could be our steady base.
If we can know what's right and wrong,
Take care of others needs,
When judgment day arrives for us,
We'll revel in our deeds.
And when our time has been and gone,
The Angels call above,
Maybe the greatest gift of all,
Is knowing how to love.
