Create an Easter bonnet or mask Did you know....? Long before bonnets were even thought of, wreaths of leaves and flowers were created to celebrate the coming of spring.

The round shape of the bonnet is thought to symbolise the shape of the sun, and the cycle and path the sun takes around the earth. In spring, the days get longer and plants burst into life - represented by leaves and flowers.

All you need to make an Easter bonnet is a boater kit or plain straw bonnet and a selection of artificial flowers, ribbons, feathers, little chenille chicks and glue to decorate.

The masks are simply made from foam, card and chenilles. You can pick up free step-by-step project sheets at HobbyCraft.

Make your own Easter Cards

Easter is a great time to keep in touch with family and friends and while it may not be possible to visit everyone, sending a card is a great way to let them know you're thinking of them.

Check out these ideas using ready made card blanks decorated with acrylic paints, layers of plain and patterned papers, card, ribbon, felt, pom poms and wobbly eyes.

Create an Easter Tree

To create your own Easter tree simply plant' some curly ting-ting in a container filled with dry floral foam, finish with some artificial moss and then get the kids to make the decorations using small polystyrene eggs, tissue papers, acrylic paints, stickers and ribbons.

If you can't find curly ting ting then branches from the garden, spray painted in a colour of your choice, will do just as well.
