COACH John Costello believes Jamie Cox is a champion in waiting after the Swindon southpaw marked his 100th career fight with a clinical first round stoppage of veteran David Kehoe, writes GARETH MOORHOUSE.

Cox took just one minute 39 seconds to send the Northampton boxer packing as he stretched his perfect record as a professional to five bouts.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist now graduates to six-round contests, and is set to appear on the undercard of the Joan Guzman v Alex Arthur bill in Edinburgh in May.

Costello, who helped prepare Cox for his most impressive professional display to date, insists the 21-year-old will have a belt around his waist sooner rather than later.

He said: "This kid is the real thing. I think he's going to go all the way.

"He showed tonight that he has learned from his previous four fights, and with the team he's got around him the kid will only get better.

"I think he's got the beating of any welterweight over six rounds right now, and maybe over eight rounds.

"It's not going to be long before Jamie is a 12-round fighter. I just think titles are waiting for him. He's got his name on one."
