FOR many women their wedding dress is a treasured and tangible memory of the happiest day of their lives.

But for Selena Killick and Kate Selwood their wedding dresses will also be their running vests for a charity race.

The pair are planning to complete the Race for Life in June, complete in their flowing white dresses.

And for Selena the fundraising dash will double up as her postponed hen night.

"Running in my wedding dress is going to be a lot of fun," said Selena.

"It's just so that everyone can have a good laugh and a giggle.

"I don't think I wear my wedding dress enough and this gives me a good reason to do so."

Selena got married in Cyprus in October, 2007, months after her dad Mick was diagnosed with inoperable oesophageal cancer.

"When we found out about dad's cancer it was a lot to take in," said Selena.

"My partner Paul and I had been talking about marriage for a while, but it hadn't been a huge priority.

"When we found out about dad, it became all the more important to sort it out.

"Doctors told him in August that he was okay to travel thanks to some chemotherapy treatment, so we got engaged and in eight weeks we had planned everything and we got married last year."

The race will also be a big event for Kate who was married in 2005.

She lost her sister Judith to breast cancer in August. 2007.

"Judith was only 36 when she died," said Kate.

"She was diagnosed in February 2006 and within 18 months she was gone.

"It was horrible. The whole idea of doing this race is to support Cancer Research, raise funds and also have a great time.

"I'll be eight months pregnant when the race happens and if I can do it, then anyone else who is able bodied can."

Swindon Race for Life 2008 will take place at Lydiard Park on Saturday, June 14, at 2pm and again on Sunday, June 15 at 11am.

On the Saturday Selena and Kate may not be the only ones in wedding dresses, as that is the theme for this year's run.

Although the pair have run the race before, this year they have a 17-strong team joining them for the five-kilometre run.

"The support we have had is absolutely fantastic," said Selena.

"We've asked people to donate but what we would really like is more people to join the race.

"That way, instead of what they donate to our campaign, they can raise a lot more.

"Both Kate and I have raced quite a few times and it's always been a great laugh.

"It's always such a lot of fun and it makes it all the more special knowing we're doing this for a good cause. I think every woman should take part."
