B&M has responded to rumors that it will be moving into the former Go Outdoors building.

Mystery has surrounded what will become of the Ocotal Way building after the camping firm that it formerly provided a home to moved into the former Toys R Us building earlier this year.

But, social media comments responding to an Adver article at the weekend seemed to suggest that variety store chain B&M would be moving across the road from the smaller unit it is currently in on Transfer Bridges.

Rumours first circulated that B&M were moving in immediately after Go Outdoors left in April, but a spokesperson for the company told The Adver at the time that they'd not heard about a potential move.

They said: "We haven’t received any information on a store move at Transfer Bridges, County Road Swindon at the minute, but we do look at hundreds of locations at any one time for potential new stores."

But since then several members of the public have made claims that they were told the move was definitely happening.

One person said: "Lady at B&M told me they are moving over there in the New
Year."

A second person said: "It's going to be B&M - staff told us months ago when we were in there...no mystery here."

Another person, who claims to be a relative of someone who works there has said that work on the new store is already well underway.

"Deffo a big B&M, my sis works for them told me it's all fitted out, just a couple bits to do," they added.

But when these claims were recently put to the company, their spokesperson reiterated the same thing that they had said in April - that there was no news to share.

"No development from our side sorry – we’ll be in touch should we hear anything," they said.

If the rumours are true it would be the latest in a number of store musical chairs in Swindon.

B&M had previously shown interest in the former Toys R Us site which is now the home of a flagship Go Outdoors store.

TK Maxx moved from Great Western Way to Mannington Retail Park and Home Bargains are in the process of moving into that old store.
