A TEAM of immigration officers raided two restaurants in Melksham.
Officers visited the Casa Restaurant and Bar on Bank Street and The Granville Chinese Restaurant on Granville Road, on Thursday evening (October 20).
A Home Office spokesperson said the Immigration Enforcement team were ‘acting on intelligence’ but the searches did not reveal any breaches of the law.
The spokesperson said: “Officers did not encounter anyone who was illegally present, therefore no arrests were made and no Civil Penalty Referral Notices were served.
“The government is tackling illegal immigration and the harm it causes by removing those with no right to be in the UK. We continue to work with law enforcement agencies to tackle illegal migration in all its forms.
“Our Nationality and Borders Act will fix the broken system; making it fair to those in genuine need and firm on those who seek to abuse it.”
If they had caught anyone working illegally, the employer would have been liable for fines of up to £20,000 per person.
The visits follow recent raids on the Amore Italian restaurant in Corsham on October 6 and the Londis convenience story in Corsham on October 19.
