Town has become a filthy dump

I despair of what is happening to this town. If Coun Renard had got off his backside some years ago and taken a walk around the centre of town he would have seen that this once proud town was fast becoming a filthy disgusting dump.

Anything of value in this town, be it historical , cultural or leisure provision, has been knocked down, allowed to fall down or sold/ leased to unsuitable companies.

The road structure in this fast expanding town is in chaos, with not attempt made to hold contractors to account.

How many grand schemes are going to be announced which fail to materialise?

To add insult to injury, I read in the Advertiser that Coun Heenan is the cabinet member for organisational excellence. What a joke. Swindon Borough Council couldn’t organise the proverbial party in a brewery.

Politicians fighting like cats in a sack

It is manifestly clear that politicians, of whatever stripe, always act in their own best interests.

I offer no comfort to the Conservative members who chose Liz Truss as Leader of the Party, but would comment that she really is the epitome of a ‘busted flush’ and really should consider herself no more than a footnote in history.

While the Conservatives fight like cats in a sack, the Labour Party cannot afford to be complacent.

They might well form the next government but a study of their front bench team does not fill me with any great hope that it has either the political or intellectual capacity to manage the affairs of the country.

Time to return to single market

So, Rishi Sunak is to be our new PM and no doubt the markets for a while will be relieved.

There is much to do and I for one would have preferred a general election, as the prospect of yet another Tory Prime Minister and government that lacks electoral democratic credibility raises serious questions.

This is now unlikely to happen at least in the short term, but with the likes of former Cabinet Secretary Lord Gus O’Donnell on BBC Radio Four’s World at One openly suggesting that Great Britain returns to the Single Market, perhaps financial sanity is finally returning to our country.

I, and I imagine many others certainly hope so. Will Rishi Sunak smell the European coffee and agree? If not, then a General Election will ultimately be the only way forward.
