Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) has refused to reveal the outcome of an investigation into “serious allegations” made against an assistant chief fire officer.

ACFO Byron Standen retired from the service in June 2022 after an independent investigation into allegations against him was carried out by South West Councils.

However, the outcome of the investigation has not been made public and DWFRS declined to comment when questioned.

Senior Communications Officer Louise Knox said: “An independent investigation was conducted under our disciplinary procedures and Byron Standen retired from the Service in June 2022.

“That statement is all that we wish to say, we don’t give details of staffing matters”.

Mr Standen had previously been suspended from his role in November 2021 after “serious allegations” were made against him.

At the time a spokesperson for the service said: “DWFRS can confirm that, as a result of serious allegations, a senior member of staff has been suspended.

"This suspension is a precautionary measure, whilst an independent external investigation takes place.

"It would not be appropriate at this stage to comment any further.

"DWFRS take the health, safety and well-being of our workforce extremely seriously and we are supporting all those involved in the investigation process."

Mr Standen was prohibited from visiting work premises or communicating with employees during his suspension.
