POLICE arrested several drivers at a car meet held in Swindon over the weekend.

Roads Policing Units visited the gathering at around 10pm on Sunday and spent a busy hour reporting drivers and taking a suspect into custody.

A Wiltshire Specialist Operations spokesman said: "RPU are in attendance at a car meet in Swindon.

"Within 45 minutes, six drivers have been reported for various offences.

"Speeders captured in a 30mph zone. Also one dangerous driving and two for dangerous condition [of vehicle].

"Now on our way to custody for a drug drive arrest."

This formed part of the Wiltshire force's Operation Staysail, which began in the summer and aims to crack down on bad behaviour and dangerous driving at large car meets in the county.

This came about after officers received several reports about vehicles speeding, racing, creating loud noises, wheel spinning, drifting, and burning tyre marks into the tarmac at large car meets across Swindon.

Members of the public can report antisocial behaviour by calling 101, visiting www.wiltshire.police.uk or – if it’s an emergency – calling 999.
