A Rodbourne resident has claimed that crime in the area is only getting worse after she was the victim of vandalism.

Milcah Augustine found the window of her Hyundai i30 smashed in and has criticised an apparent lack of action from the police, claiming that they did not turn up after the crime was reported.

The incident happened on Thursday, November 17 on Morris Street.

She said: “They said they can’t do anything nor they can come because nothing was stolen, now we are going to be pay extra money. Which we might not have for this month.

“We are asked to check CCTV cameras around the area and to check if anybody had seen anything. Why do we have to do it?

“Not everyone can afford cameras.”

Photos sent to the Adver show the Hyundai i30’s front passenger window being smashed into pieces.

Swindon Advertiser:

Mrs Augustine said she now feels unsafe living in her neighbourhood as a number of properties have been targeted by criminals.

“I feel unsafe in my home because anyone can break in and nothing can be done," she said.

“Because there is a garage behind us, and their two cars were stolen.

“My neighbours are businesses and during the night I always keep an eye on my garden, it’s all dark at their end and it’s an alley.

“We were awake the whole night because of my sick son and they did it just in front of our house, so what else are they capable of?"

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: “We have received a report of criminal damage caused to a vehicle in Morris Street which occurred yesterday morning (17/11).

“Due to no known witnesses or CCTV opportunities in the area, the incident has been closed as undetected, however, if further lines of enquiry come to light we will investigate further.

“Anyone with information should call 101 and quote crime reference number 54220121427.”
