A FLOOD alert has been issued for the mid Bristol area, including Trowbridge, Holt and Semington.
The Environment Agency says further rainfall later in the week could cause river levels to rise and leading to flooding.
The alert follows days of heavy rainfall which has swelled river levels in the River Avon in Bradford on Avon and Melksham, the River Biss in Trowbridge, and in Semington Brook.
The agency said: “River levels are stable on the Bristol Avon and Semington Brook.
“Flooding is likely to affect locations near the Bristol Avon, Semington Brook, particularly around low-lying land and roads between Melksham and Bathford during Tuesday, 22 November.
“The flood gates at Holt Road may be closed. No Flood Warnings are currently forecast to be issued in this Flood Alert area.
“Further rainfall is forecast during the week. We will continue to monitor levels closely.
“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
“This message will be updated on the afternoon of Tuesday 22nd November, or as the situation changes.”
The agency also posted flood alerts for the Middle and Upper Stour areas of Dorset.
