Ever fancied owning, or renting a former nightclub, some parking spaces, a listed ex-museum and art gallery or a patch of land you can build 60 houses on?

Well, now’s your chance.

Among the £1 billion worth of properties owned by Swindon Borough Council are some intriguing properties that the authority is offering for sale or for lease.

One is a kiosk shop at Theatre Square at the top of Regent Street.

The council’s description says: “Mid-terrace lock up retail kiosk unit with fully glazed shop front. Security shutters. Located in close proximity to the Central Library and Town Hall.”

But please note that the unit may not be used for “mobile phone repairs or accessories, nail bar, hairdressing, restaurant or takeaway”.

It's yours for a rent of £6,500 per year.

Also, in the area this the building which used to house the Medina nightclub in Theatre Square.

At the moment the only permitted use under planning is that of a nightclub but change of use may be available.

The council will tell interested tenants the rent on application.

If you’re going to run either a nightclub, or a shop (perhaps selling your very hip club next door’s merch) you might need to park.

If so, Euclid Street is very happy to rent you car parking spaces in the secure undercroft of the theatre for just £1,200 a year.

You can also rent parking spaces near Faringdon Park on the edge of Railway village in “a small yard with locked gate” for the rather pricier sum of £2,500 a year.

There are a number of industrial units available – three units each in Brindley Close in the Cheney Manor and Station industrial estates and a depot with a loo included at St Andrews Close in Wroughton at a rent of £3,500.

For would-be housing developers, the council is willing to sell 3.8 acres of greenfield land at Moredon Recreation Ground, near the site of the multi sports hub being constructed (in fact proceeds from the sale of the land will at least in part, fund the construction of the hub).

The council says: “Easily accessible to the highway network, the site has a Development Brief for a scheme of 60 homes, approved at Planning Committee.”

If your taste runs to something older, grander and listed, Apsley House, the Regency former home of the museum and art gallery, and its attached parade of shops in Victoria Road is available but no price is specified. The council would like you to make an offer.
