Here are some of the latest planning applications submitted in the area.

Castle Eaton: Old and not very attractive farm sheds could be demolished and two new houses built in the yard of Lushill Farm in the north Swindon village, if Mrs AM Kennedy's plans are approved.

She wants to keep the old stone-built bard and extend it for one two-storey, four-bed house, and build an entirely new, single-storey three-bed house as well. Both homes would have large garage and store buildings provided.

Mrs Kennedy’s application says: “The upper farmstead will be converted for residential use involving the demolition and removal of the 20th century sheds. This reduction would significantly lessen the visual impact of the upper farmstead on the lower farmstead and the wider landscape and restore the prominence of the farmhouse as the key historic buildings visible on the North side of Lus Hill.

Stratton St Margaret: After having a plan to build another house in the garden of 20 John Herring Crescent turned down earlier this year as planners thought it would lead to “cramped and contrived” development, Mr and Mrs R Cooper have tried again.

They want to build the house on land to the side of the semi-detached house and their application says: “The dwelling has been re-designed to ensure it is proportionate to number 20 and similar housing in the street, in terms of scale, mass and footprint. This allows the amenity area to be more equally balanced relative to number 20 and the new plot."

Hinton Parva: A Mr and Mrs Stevens are hoping to demolish old, unused farm buildings and build a new three-bed timber-clad home for themselves on land at Henny Rose Barn, City Coner in the south Swindon village.

They have told planners: “We would like to demolish the existing ugly (and honestly dangerous) farm buildings and construct a discreet and charming new dwelling.

“The land to south of the plot will be left as a wildflower meadow and I’ve already had discussions with our new next-door neighbour (with whom we “share” the meadow) who is pleased that we intend to enhance the property as it stands and maintain the “countryside” feel.”

Extensions: Applications have been submitted to build extensions to houses or to build outbuildings or convert garages and lofts into habitable space at: 12 Taylor Crescent, Kingsdown; 176 County Road, Central; 18 Canberra Road, Wroughton; 12 Monmouth Close, Lawn; 6 Frillford Drive, Stratton St Margaret; 2 Dudmore Road, Old Walcot; 10 Treforest Close, Oakhurst; The Saracens, Turnball, Chiseldon; 28 Clapham Close, Moredon; 41 Swindon Road Stratton St Margaret;7 The Hedges Wanborough; 13 Kingsley Way, Queensfield.

Extensions have been approved for: 29 Home Close Chiseldon; 39 Merlin Way, Covingham; 21 Kellsboro Avenue, Wroughton; 2 Plain Farm Cottage, Ermin Way, Foxhill; 12 Darcey Close, Grange Park; 15 Henley Drive, Highworth; Little Hinton Farm, Little Hinton Lane, Hinton Parva; Kite House, 2 Suters Lane, Wanborough, 3 High Street, Haydon Wick; 3 Romney Way, Ramleaze; 23 Cleeve Lawns, lawn and the first floor flat at 11 Moredon Road, Moredon.

The plan put forward by Jason Sinclair to build a single-storey extension at 18 Canberra Road in Wroughton has been refused by Swindon Borough Council planners. They said: “The proposed extension represents a dominant and overbearing development to both the host dwelling, surrounding terrace and AONB.” It will also overshadow a neighbouring property.

Mr Sinclair has another, similar proposal still being considered.

Overshadowing and being too big was the reason given for refusing S Drew’s plan for a front and rear extension to the garage at 44 Moredon Road, Moredon to create a new garage and garden room.

At 12 Monmouth Close in Lawn Mr P Perugino has put in a smaller proposal to extend the house at the back and convert the garage into a habitable space after a more ambitious scheme was refused permission.

Council planners said: “The short separation distance between the proposed first floor side/rear extension and the rear garden and rear windows 13 Monmouth Close would have an unacceptable enclosing and overbearing impact on this neighbouring property.”
