Swindon residents spotted several cars driving on the wrong side of the road this weekend as the influx of snow caused confusion to drivers.

Jo Kingman, 29, lives in Old Town and was Christmas shopping with her boyfriend Max on Sunday when the pair witnessed something extraordinary on Faringdon Road.

As Jo looked out of her passenger seat window, she saw that a number of other cars had started to drive towards them despite being on the completely wrong side of the dual carriageway.

“We had come around the one-way system on Holbrook Way and we looked up and went, that’s not right,” she laughed.

“Am I seeing this right? Have they changed the layout but no, they were just on the wrong side of the road!”

Jo tried to alert one of the drivers to the mistake, but she was astounded when the cars remained in the wrong position on the busy road.

“The Range Rover nearby stopped to allow the woman to go but she just looked shocked,” she remarked.

“The lights then changed and we gestured for her to go to the other side but she didn’t move, she just sat and is probably still there now!”

Used to the hustle and bustle of London, Jo is no stranger to unsual road occurrences.

“Originally coming from the capital, I am used to the chaos,” she said.

“I think the years of Covid have affected driving standards as everyone is in such a rush all the time and people need to slow down and pay attention to what is happening around them.”

This is the second time in a week that Jo has been involved in an unusual road incident after a man tried to hit her car on Friday, November 9.

“I was on Great Western Way when a guy tried to ram me off the road,” she revealed.

“Thankfully he did not make contact with the car as he decided to swing in front of me and try and brake.”

Jo called Wiltshire Police about the matter and discovered she was not the only one to have reported the car for dangerous driving.

Despite the dicey weather, cars were out and about over the weekend in Swindon, but the majority remained sensible on the whole.

“I think a lot of people thankfully chose not to go out because it wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be,” said Jo.

“The people in Swindon are lovely but the driving standard is scary.”
