A man accused of killing a teenager in a car crash will appear before a Crown Court next month in relation to five charges.

Jamielee Hitt, of Page Close, Calne, is accused of causing the death by dangerous driving of Bethany Gumm when a silver Ford Fiesta hit a tree on The Mead, Westbury, just before 11.40pm on February 5 last year.

He appeared before Salisbury Magistrates' court on Friday (December 16), but his case was adjourned.

The justices were unable to deal with the case because the charges he faces are indictable-only and carry the risk of a lengthy custodial sentence if convicted.

Miss Gumm, 18, died when a silver Ford Fiesta hit a tree in The Mead, Westbury, just before 11.40pm on February 5 last year.

Two other female passengers in the vehicle – a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman – were rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol after being seriously injured in the crash.

Hitt is charged with causing the death of Miss Gumm by dangerous driving, causing death by driving a vehicle without a licence and causing death by driving a vehicle without insurance.

He also faces two charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving relating to the injured passengers.

No pleas were entered in Friday's hearing.
