A Swindon house has been damaged after a car ploughed through its front garden and crashed into it.

A white Mercedes was driving on Cricklade Road just before 3am on Wednesday, January 4, when it left the road and ended up embedded in the front of a nearby property.

Police attended to the collision and the driver was reported for careless driving.

The wrecked car now rests where it stopped, but has been fenced off so that no one can go near it. The airbag has been visibly deployed and the car's bonnet is crumpled.

Bits of foliage and broken plant plots litter the garden, and the house itself is clearly damaged, half of the arched brickwork around the door has been destroyed as well as the window frame and front wall.

A spokesperson from the police said: "We responded to a road traffic collision just before 3am Wednesday morning in which a car struck a house on Cricklade Road in Swindon.

"The driver was reported for careless driving."

They added: "A structural engineer has checked the building, which is thought to be unoccupied, to ensure it is safe."

This was the second car to hit a building in Swindon on the same day, as an estate agent in the town centre was struck by car as well.
