BRADFORD ON AVON: A popular pub in Bradford on Avon may become residential accommodation.

The Bear is a pub that sits in the centre of the town on Silver Street and the proposal submitted to Wiltshire Council seeks a change of use for the whole building from a public house with accommodation to residential use.

All existing signage, notice boards, lighting etc associated with the current use are to be removed.

A general refurbishment is to be carried out to include light cleaning, repointing and redecoration of the rainwater goods, windows, doors, external gates and walls.

The Bear and associated buildings on the site are not listed, however they are attached to No 27 Silver Street (to the south west side) which is Grade II listed and also opposite to the listed terrace of buildings No.7 to No. 11 Silver Street which are also Grade II listed.

TROWBRIDGE: A hand car wash in Trowbridge may be demolished and replaced with a block of six flats.

The car wash at 15 Castle Street, Trowbridge has an under cover area on a metal portal frame, with a portable structure placed underneath.

The site lies within the town centre of Trowbridge.

The proposal involves the creation of a building which will house six dwellings.

But Wiltshire Council’s drainage team have made a comment on the application saying: “The drainage team have reviewed the above application and wish to object based on the fact that the proposed drainage strategy is to discharge surface water to the foul sewer.

“Whilst it is acknowledged that the existing car park may discharge flows to the foul system, this does not mean that the default position should be to maintain this arrangement.

“The applicant is required to produce a drainage strategy for the site.”

The building will be set over three storeys.

The development will be provided with cycle stores to the rear of the building.

The walling will be finished in a red brick, with the use of natural stone quoins and fenestration surrounds.

The roofing material will be a natural slate.

To the east, are retail on the ground floor with residential flats above, to the North is retail.

To the south is commercial and retail, with residential above, to the west is a car park and beyond a block of apartments.

DEVIZES: A village hall car park in Devizes may be expanded.

The village hall car park in Bishops Cannings will more than double in capacity if the plans submitted to Wiltshire Council go through.

The application says: “There has for a number of years been a need to accommodate a greater number of cars for users of the Village Hall; parents dropping and collecting Primary School children, the Church, and walkers.

“The current capacity is 16 and the proposal for 38 cars inclusive of two accessible bays. There is and has been concern about congestion close to the car park, Hall and School approach. This proposal is modest in extent and sympathetic in material palette and setting.”

EXTENSIONS: Applications have been submitted to extend houses or build outbuildings or convert garages and lofts into habitable rooms at: 178a Brow Cottage, Whitley, Yew Tree Cottage, Malmesbury, 3 The Orchard, Swindon, April Cottage, Marlborough, 10 Cossor Road, Pewsey.
