A pedestrian has been hurt in a crash involving three vehicles near the railway bridge on Wootton Bassett Road.

Police responded to the scene of the crash at lunchtime on Tuesday and the road was briefly closed to allow emergency services to deal with the situation.

The road by the bridge, near BMW Dick Lovett, is usually closed because tall heavy goods vehicles hit the bridge and get stuck.

But on this occasion, police confirmed that the incident involved a pedestrian, two cars, and a lorry colliding underneath it.

A witness described seeing what looked like two cars that had hit each other face on but while the lorry looked like it was where it was supposed to be, the cars didn't.

They added that the aftermath blocked both sides of the road.

A spokesperson from Wiltshire Police said: "We responded to reports of a road traffic collision by the railway bridge on Wootton Bassett Road in Swindon shortly after 12 noon today.

"A pedestrian was hurt in the incident, which involved a lorry and two cars, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"There have been no reported arrests and traffic appears to be flowing normally."
