THE return of a Post Office to West Swindon is one step closer.

Local people have been without a post office facility since the one inside the West Swindon District Centre closed more than a year ago.

But it was recently announced that an interested party had made a formal application to the Post Office to reopen the branch in the area.

MP Robert Buckland said in a post on Facebook: "As you may already be aware, both myself and Cllr Suresh Gattapur have been campaigning hard on behalf of local residents for the Post Office in the West Swindon Shopping Centre to be reopened, since the day the Post Office was closed.

"We have received the following further positive update from the Post Office today.

"The postmaster has received news this morning that the landlord has agreed to the use of the premises for West Swindon Post Office. This is good news and means we can move forward.

"The next step is to finalise the paperwork for the premises and send a contract to the postmaster. Once signed we can release the details of the premises and the new branch."

But Mr Buckland was not able to confirm exactly where the new branch will be.
