A late-night search for a missing person in Wiltshire ended with a body being recovered.

Wiltshire Police deployed a team from Wiltshire Search and Rescue to look for a high-risk missing person in the Warminster area at around 10.45pm on Sunday evening.

The search involved other charities and agencies, including Hampshire Search and Rescue Dogs, Avon & Somerset Search and Rescue, and Severn Area Rescue Association.

Hampshire Search and Rescue volunteers waited on standby just in case more resources were required.

Later that night, Wiltshire Search and Rescue issued an update on their emergency callout.

It said: "Missing person located sadly deceased.

"Volunteers from all teams worked alongside Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue, and Wiltshire Police, to recover the person in a dignified manner.

"Our thoughts go out their family and friends at this difficult time."

Wiltshire Search and Rescue is a charity which supports the emergency services, receives no regular statutory funding, and relies on donations, grants and sponsorship.

This was the 14th incident it has responded to so far this year, with the team of unpaid volunteers currently averaging one search and rescue operation every 2.5 days.
