A pedestrian hit by a lorry on Royal Wootton Bassett's High Street has died.

Paramedics rushed a man in his 60s to Southmead Hospital by land ambulance on Wednesday afternoon after he suffered serious injuries in the collision.

The emergency services - including the air ambulance - responded to 999 calls from the town's central street at 12.35pm and closed the road for four hours while they investigated and cleared the scene.

Pedestrians could still access most of the road, though further along - near the Esso garage and Spar shop - police redirected vehicles away from the street.

Today, the police confirmed that the pedestrian died early this morning.

A spokesman said: "His family have been informed and will be supported by specialist trained officers.

"Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected.
