It's Swindon's town centre - but not quite as we know it.

Zombies stumble around outside the Wharf Green McDonald's, wrecked shells of burnt-out cars fill Canal Walk, and flames on the David Murray John Tower glow bright against the night sky.

This apocalyptic scene has been created in the Far Cry 5 videogame by a Swindonian gamer who spent hours using tools in the Xbox One software to detail the streets near the Brunel West car park with uncanny accuracy.

The game is the latest in a successful Ubisoft series whose previous iterations have been set in North America, Africa, tropical Pacific islands, and the Himalayas - and now you can visit Swindon, too.

There are two versions of the area: one in the daytime - where it looks like a realistic equivalent of the actual town centre - and one at night which looks considerably less safe to visit.

Its creator proudly shared his work with the Adver, adding: "It took me probably seven to eight hours. I decided to make it because I just thought it would be fun and different to other stuff I’ve made."

In the map editor, spaces can be set up for single-player, two-player co-operative play, or up to 12-player multiplayer.
