A TEENAGER has been arrested following a high-speed bike chase through North Swindon

PCSOs were patrolling the area on Tuesday at around 8pm when they came across the young man on Lady Lane, dressed completely in black, wearing a balaclava and a hooded coat, who then sprinted away on his bike, with the police giving chase.

He was eventually caught and questioned about why he ran, but during this he became aggressive and pushed one of the PCSOs out of the way, kicking their bike several times in the process, before then fleeing the scene.

Another chase ensued on bikes, through North Swindon, before several police cars also joined in, tracking the teen down to Redhouse Way where he was physically wrestled to the ground by officers.

The teen was extremely aggressive and physically uncooperative, lashing out and struggling as officers tried to help him off of the ground and get him into the back of a  police van.

Throughout this time he aimed a number of expletive-filled abusive insults, including homophobic comments toward the officers in question.

This was the conclusion of a day in which an Adver reporter shadowed two local PCSOs to see what it was that they do in their day-to-day work as part of the newly drawn-out community policing teams.

The day of shadowing two members of the Swindon North, East and Rural community policing team began with a visit to a school to talk online and personal safety to year 6 children.

Then it was followed by patrols of another school during pick-up time to make sure parents weren't parking illegally or dangerously outside.

During this, the PCSOs received intelligence of youths riding motorbikes in local parks nearby which led to an evening patrol with the intention of heading to that area.

North Swindon is on high alert following the death of Owen Dunn who was stabbed in Haydon End and died from his injuries.

A spokesperson from Wiltshire Police said: “At around 8.10pm on February 28 in Redhouse, we arrested a 13-year-old boy from Swindon on suspicion of two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

"There were no injuries.

"He was taken to custody for questioning and has since been bailed.”
