Motorists have been warned with several road closures set for Royal Wootton Bassett over the next month.

Road works from Wiltshire Council and gas company Wales and West Utilities means those travelling through the town will experience disruption.

It comes as Wales and West have this week finished their work High Street, causing businesses in the town to experience a slump in sales.

Work on a connection for the new development on Bincknoll Lane roundabout with Huntsland and four-way traffic lights will last between Monday, March 6, and Friday, March 31.

Wiltshire Council will also close New Road for resurfacing and will have a diversion in place at the junction with Whitehill Lane/A3102 from Wednesday, March 8, until the following day.

Wales and West will then return to the High Street for the final connection at the junction of Station Road.

This will mean that Station Road will be closed for two whole days between March 13 and 17, due to health and safety reasons.

Finally, it has also been revealed that Wiltshire Council will conduct several night closures on the High Street for resurfacing between Monday, March 27 and Thursday, April 6.

But Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council did have some good news for motorists in the longer term.

The Facebook post said: “After the first week of April there are no planned works for the rest of the year, except for a connection required for the new Care Home on the Coped Hall Roundabout dates to be confirmed.”
