The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates Court earlier this month.

FERNDALE: A 62-year-old man from Swindon has been fined £600 after pleading guilty to driving a light goods vehicle that was far too heavy.

On August 25 last year, John Hanlon, of Bessemer Close, drove a Ford van along the A419 in Badbury which exceeded the maximum gross weight shown on its plate.

The maximum allowed weight of the vehicle was 3,500kg but Hanlon had cargo in the vehicle which brought its total weight to 4,940kgs, which was a 41 per cent overload.

Along with the fine, he must pay £107 in court costs plus £240 to fund victim services.

The company Lake Edge Limited in Cirencester has been fined £1,200 for the same offence and must also pay £200 in court costs plus £480 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: The parent of a child who attends a Swindon primary school has been fined for allowing her son to miss days of lessons in September 2022 without reasonable justification.

The 40-year-old mum, who cannot be identified to protect the anonymity of her child, pleaded guilty to the charge and must pay an £80 fine plus costs of £40 as well as £32 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: The parent of a child who attends a Swindon primary school has been fined for allowing her son to miss days of lessons in July 2022 without reasonable justification.

The 42-year-old mum, who cannot be identified to protect the anonymity of her child, pleaded guilty and must pay a £60 fine plus court costs of £40 as well as £24 to fund victim services.

MOTORWAY: Luis Jesus-Pita, of Tait Court in London, has been banned from driving for 21 days after speeding on the M4 near Swindon.

The 27-year-old went above 70mph on a motorbike near Nettleton on July 10, 2022.

He must pay a £384 fine plus £110 in court costs and £154 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: Danielle Horscroft, of Foundry Close in Melksham, received a £660 fine after she failed to respond to a police request.

On January 24 2022, the 33-year-old was required by police in Swindon to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle, namely a Land Rover Freelander, who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

She was charged with failing to provide this information and pleaded not guilty to this on October 4 but was later found guilty on December 14.

Along with the fine, Horscroft received six points on their driving licence.

Separately, magistrates proved in her absence that she drove along the Jessop Underpass in Bristol on September 20, 2021 without insurance and ignored a red light.

The defendant received a £660 fine for the lack of insurance and a £220 fine for ignoring the traffic signal, lost her licence for six months, and was also ordered to pay £110 in court costs plus £154 to fund victim services.

SWINDON: Three people have avoided jail after stealing goods worth nearly £2,000 from a Swindon Tesco.

42-year-old Mark Jolley, of Bettles Close in London, visited the supermarket with 59-year-old Mark Venton, of Maple Close in Hillingdon, and 37-year-old Fredrick Ingram, of Park Way in London, on June 8 2022.

They each indicated pleas of guilty to stealing items worth a total of £1,795.

Jolley received a 12-week prison sentence which has been suspended for 12 months, must pay £128 to fund victim services, and comply with a rehabilitation order with up to 20 days of activity requirements and six months of drug rehabilitation treatment.

Venton received an eight-week prison sentence which has been suspended for 12 months and must pay £85 in court costs plus £128 to fund victim services.

Ingram received a 12-week prison sentence which has been suspended for 12 months and must pay £85 in court costs plus £128 to fund victim services.
