A prominent pub situated on Royal Wootton Bassett's High Street is looking for new people to run it.

The Waggon and Horses is currently listed on findmypub.com after quietly closing to the public.

As of March 14, the Google page for the establishment lists it as temporarily closed and there hasn't been any activity on the pub's Facebook page since August 2022.

Questions were asked about the pub's status on the Royal Wootton Bassett Community Facebook page, where it was revealed that it is currently closed and is seeking new management.

The listing on findmypub is asking for an ongoing cost of £9,600 and then an annual rent of £10,400, with a 'potential turnover' of £278,000 per annum.

But any prospective publicans are advised that further funds of £7,000 will be required to get going.

The listing also states that the Waggon and Horses "is an ideal pub for a passionate starter couple, located in the delightful market town of Royal Wootton Bassett" and that the surrounding housing provides plenty of footfall.

It adds: "This thriving pub is well-regarded as a go-to venue for games and sports and maintains the traditional values of a friendly local pub with a local customer base.

"This is a cosy pub, full of character and very well-presented. There are two main trading rooms, the larger of the two is at the front of the building and is occupied by the bar servery; cask ales are an important feature which I would encourage the new publican to bring back.

"This is a comfortable area for guests who are wishing to relax and pass time with a drink, socialise with friends, and watch the live sport. There is a smaller room to the rear, which currently operates as a games and function area."

The advert also suggests that the pub is driven by sports and games and has historically been the home to numerous sports teams including two pool teams, a crib team, a part-time football team and a cricket team.

It also says that The Waggon & Horses is well known for its strong live music following who visited on a regular basis, as entertainment and music were provided every week.

It is not known exactly when the previous management decided to leave the pub, leading to its closure.

One member of the public commenting on the Facebook post said: "Such a shame. Was a nice pub too!

"Hopefully, someone else will take it over."
