A cyclist suffered potentially life-changing injuries in a reported hit and run which led to two arrests.

Police received a 999 call from Meadowcroft in Stratton at 1.30pm on Thursday afternoon.

A car had allegedly hit a cyclist and failed to stop at the scene. Officers later found the vehicle abandoned nearby.

Paramedics took the rider of the electric bike to hospital by air ambulance, where the cyclist is being treated for potentially life-changing injuries.

After searching the area, officers arrested two men - aged 19 and 20 - on suspicion of robbery. They are currently in police custody.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101 quoting log 54230028593."

While police investigated, they cordoned off part of the road, which stopped drivers turning onto Meadowcroft from Beechcroft Road and prevented traffic from reaching the junction via the other direction.

This caused some congestion on Beechcroft Road.
