WELCOME to the Walcot section of Your Neighbourhood, which is the second of our community websites aimed at getting to the heart of local news.

I was unfortunately unable to attend the meeting at the Walcot Dome last month, but judging by the smiles on the faces of the Web Team the next day, it was a roaring success.

Our web editor, Gill Harris, told me the response from people who went along was positive and downright enthusiastic and it was the kind of meeting that makes our jobs as journalists enjoyable.

The aim of these community sites is not to remove local news from the paper - our reporters still want to hear from you if you have a story.

But there simply isn't enough space in the paper to write about every event, every issue and every aspect of life in all the areas the Advertiser covers.

By using the web in this way, we can give you the opportunity to publicise the news that matters to you.

So welcome on board, we hope you enjoy contributing to and reading Your Walcot.

If you weren't at the meeting and would like to know more about this project, we would love to hear from you. Just email Gill Harris or Stephanie Tye at webteam@swindonadvertiser.co.uk or call them on 01793 501795.

In the meantime, watch out for Your Highworth, which is launching later this month and keep an eye on Your Neighbourhood because we are hoping to have all parts of Swindon covered by the end of the year.
