Avebury and Red Lion pub in UK's top 10 most haunted places

Tony Ferguson, who has amassed a large social media following during his 13 years of investigating the paranormal, believes both the stones and the nearby Red Lion pub are a hive of ghostly activity.

He claims he investigated the Red Lion years ago and was confronted with unexplained moving objects.

Since then he says locals and visitors have contacted him to report sightings of “a mixture” of unexplained phenomenon, including poltergeists and UFOs.

This inspired him to return to the world heritage site, four months ago, to look into multiple claims of apparitions near the iconic stones.

“It’s definitely haunted and it would be in my top ten most haunted locations I’ve visited throughout the country, and I must have visited thousands”, said Mr Ferguson.

“I document locations throughout the UK and I’m normally very sceptical but there’s definitely something going on there.

“The stones are a special place with a lot of mystery to them. The whole area is a bizarre place overall.”

Mr Ferguson told this paper that he felt like he was being “constantly watched” during his three hour night time stay at the Wiltshire tourist attraction.

But even he was not prepared for the spooky apparition he claims he saw next.

“We went to each of the stones and called out to see what would happen”, he said.

“I felt somebody behind me and I turned around and saw a weird light source which came along the ground.

“It looked like a leg walking along the grass and then it just disappeared. At first I thought it was just the reflection from car lights, but no other light source could recreate this.”

The team of ghost hunters and paranormal experts also reported hearing disembodied voices and seeing moving objects in the area around the stones.

Mr Ferguson added: “We heard disembodied voices, and these were picked up on our cameras. Some of them told us to leave and we couldn’t make out what the others were saying.

“There were male and female voices there talking that shouldn’t have been.”

The Avebury stone circles are around 4,600 years old, and the outer circle is the largest prehistoric stone circle in the world.
