A Swindon MP has taken a new part-time job that pays an estimated £1,000 a day.
South Swindon MP Sir Robert Buckland, a practising barrister and King's Counsel, started his part-time job as senior counsel at Payne Hicks Beach solicitors, based in London, on March 1.
His listing of the appointment in the register of MPs' interests says the job is ongoing with no end date set.
It adds: “This is a part-time role for which I receive £4,000 per month. Hours: 32 a month.”
It works out at an hourly rate of £125 per hour.
Assuming an eight-hour day, he would work one day a week and earn £1,000.
Sir Robert has also updated the register recently with details of other paid work.
One example is the approximately ten hours work of research, meeting MPs and chairing a round table discussion as the chairman of the Levelling Up Commission for Chambers UK in July last year.
At £2,250 for the work, he was charging Chambers UK an hourly rate of £225, fully £100 more than his salary from Payne Hicks Beach.
Sir Robert is also expecting to be paid £6,750 for 27 hours of work over nine days in April, May and June last year for BSV Claims in Shoreditch, London.
