A Swindon mother who lost her fiancé to bowel cancer just weeks before their wedding, has promised to keep his memory alive for herself and their three young children.

At the age of 29 years old, Joe Morgan was given the devastating news he had stage 4 cancer after months of coping with crippling stomach pains.

After his tragic death on November 17, 2018, his fiancé Becky Williams was left alone with their three young children 12-year-old Harley, 22-month-old Elsie and Arthur who was only six months old.

The 32-year-old mother has opened up about her experience to encourage more people to see their GP and act on any unusual symptoms.

“Joe wanted to share his story and raise awareness, to get the message out there to other men to listen to their bodies and tell them if something doesn’t feel right to do something about it and don’t rest until you get answers,” said Becky.

“He wanted to break down the stigma about men being scared or embarrassed to go to the doctors.

“By sharing Joe’s story I feel like something positive has come from something so horrendous and I know he would be really proud.”

Despite undergoing major surgery twice, followed by chemotherapy, Joe was given a life expectancy of between two and three years, but died eight months later.

This was just after his 30th birthday and two weeks before he and Becky were due to tie the knot.

“I think Joe worried that I would crumble and he kept telling me that I had to stay strong for the kids,” added Becky.

“Having spent many years in Weymouth I moved away with so many memories having found a new life and one that my children are happy with following our grief.”

More than 2,600 new cases of bowel cancer are diagnosed each year in people under the age of 50 in the UK.

“Cancer does not discriminate, and you are never too young.

“Listening to your body is so important and early diagnosis really can save lives.”

Four years on since Joe’s death and having met Tom Williams, an old family friend, the couple began seeing each other and love soon blossomed.

They now live together in Swindon where Tom and Becky now live with her three children, Harley, Elsie, and Arthur and Tom’s two children, Blake, and Halle.
