SEVEN people have been hurt in a four-car pile-up on a major Wiltshire road.

A crash took place on the A36 Warminster Road at roughly 9.15pm on Saturday evening, with emergency services, including a Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, rushing to the scene.

The major road remained closed overnight, only reopening over 12 hours later at 10.30am Sunday morning, after Avon and Somerset Police carried out an investigation into the circumstances.

Now, the regional force has confirmed some of the details of the incident and has released an appeal for witnesses.

In an update provided at Sunday lunchtime, a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Seven people sustained an injury, some of which required hospital treatment, including a man and a woman who were seriously injured.

"The vehicles involved were a white Ford Puma, blue BMW and two Ford Fiestas, one grey and the other blue."

The police spokesperson added that they were looking to hear from anyone who might have seen what happened.

"We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a four-car collision near Claverton last night.

"Enquiries were carried out at the scene by officers and we’d ask any witnesses who have not yet spoken with us, or any drivers in the area at the time and may have relevant dashcam footage, to please call us on 101 and quote reference number 5223087300."
