A comedian has shared his amusing knowledge of Swindon ahead of a live show in the Wiltshire town.
Alasdair Beckett-King has featured on several television shows with several appearances on BBC’s Mock the Week.
Now the flame-haired comedian is swapping the cameras for the stage as he takes his UK comedy tour to Swindon.
While chatting with the Adver, Alasdair revealed the amusing extent of his knowledge on the Wiltshire town.
“I don’t actually know if I have been to Swindon before as I have a really terrible memory,” he laughed.
“I have definitely been through Swindon on the train because the woman on the Tannoy recording says ‘Swinnnn-don’ so I know the exact pronunciation.”
The 38-year-old featured on the final ever episode of Mock the Week last November and is grateful for the experience.
“Yes, I killed Mock the Week, you’ve caught me as my jokes were too powerful for the BBC so they cancelled it to be on the safe side and give the other shows a chance,” he joked.
“I had been on there a few times latterly and it was very nice as I felt very lucky to be on it.”
His new live tour entitled ‘The Interdimensional ABK’ is an unusual mixture of sci-fi, reality and comedy which combines to amuse audiences in a unique way.
“The premise is that I come from a parallel dimension that is slightly better than this world,” he explained.
“It is an excuse to do whimsical and observational comedy with a sci-fi twist.”
Reaction to the new show has been positive up and down the country too according to Alasdair.
“I’m about five shows in and they have all gone really well so I hate to jinx it,” he said.
“The numbers have been really good and the audiences, once they’ve arrived, have been very warm and have been enjoying themselves.
“People are liking it which is a huge relief.”
Alasdair, originally from Durham, is embarking on his debut solo tour after previously supporting in other shows.
“I have gigged all over the place but this is my first solo tour and with 25 dates, it is a huge load more than I am used to,” he said.
“I’m used to travelling around playing venues of this size but not on my own, so it is nice to have a nice long slot where it’s just the me-show.”
You can watch the show at Swindon Arts Centre on at 7.30pm on Saturday, May 13, and purchase tickets here.
