Streets in the Swindon borough and around its outskirts will be closed to traffic over the weekend so that neighbours can gather to celebrate the coronation of our new king.

Parties will be kicking off on Saturday and Sunday to mark the historic occasion of King Charles III officially becoming the United Kingdom's new monarch.

On the day of the coronation itself, May 6, a church service and concert will be held at St Bartholomew and All Saints Church in Royal Wootton Bassett, where all of the town's choirs will contribute up to 10 minutes of musical pieces which all have a link to our king.

There will also be some singalongs with public participation before the event concludes with choir members singing Zadok the Priest.

Highworth's Recreation Ground will have live footage from the coronation ceremony on a big screen while families enjoy a falconry display, ferret racing, a petting farm, an inflatable assault course, an air cadet simulator, fun fair rides, face painting.

There will be food vendors serving jacket potatoes, cakes, sweets, and barbecued meat, along with entertainment from dancers and more.

The Moonrakers is celebrating all afternoon, with children's games, prizes and a picnic at 1pm followed by live music at 3pm and karaoke at 7pm.

Haydon Wick Club has games, a barbecue, sweets, homemade favourites, and Greek food from 1pm to 5pm.

Lawn Community Centre is hosting a party that afternoon.

Then on Sunday, May 7, a major celebration will be held on Wood Street in Old Town from midday to 5pm, featuring a big street food market with British fare from The Kings Arms and international cuisine, as well as drinks from The Tuppenny and Hop Kettle.

Live music performances will include singer-songwriter Jordan Marvel - playing classic and modern hits from artists like Ed Sheeran, George Ezra, and the Stereophonics - as well as new girl band Melodix, choir The Grace Notes - formed by Swindon’s very own Billy and Louie - and harmony group BLou Notes.

Launched alongside the street party, and set to run till the end of May, is a King’s Coronation Sovereign Trail, where people can download a map of the clue locations, and wander around Old Town to find them. People who answer all the clues correctly will be in with a chance to win a King’s Coronation Sovereign coin, and a hamper of goodies from Old Town businesses.

Old Town Business Association vice chair Kris Talikowski said: "We are thrilled to be hosting this.

"It's a great opportunity for local businesses to show what they can do, and for the community to come together and celebrate. We've worked hard to make this a fun and safe event for everyone, and we can't wait to see everyone there."

The street party is free to attend and open to all. Visitors are encouraged to come early as there will be plenty of entertainment throughout the day.

Percy Street in Rodbourne will have a party with stalls, kids activities, and a tombola.

Freshbrook's village centre car park will have tables set up where villagers can bring their own chair, food, and drinks, and buy barbecued food and drinks with table service by The Windmill pub.

Music will be provided by the Windmill, along with a bouncy castle in the pub garden.

Fish, chips, and other food will be available on-site at the kebab house.

A litter pick will be carried out on the Monday at 10am.

Anthony Road and Plummer Close in Wroughton will have street parties with a bouncy castle, face painting, games, a barbecue, crown-making, and other fun and games.

At some point over the bank holiday, Purton will hold a big lunch at the Silver Threads Hall on Hooks Hill and a coronation party at the Village Centre on Church Street.
