The owner of a block of flats in the town centre wants to replace the existing cladding with fire-proof material, and a plan for a new roof on a historic building at Lydiard St Mary’s Church is paused.

Lydiard Tregoze: Two applications, one for ordinary planning permission and one for listed building consent, to replace the roof of the stable room next to0 the Grade 1 listed St Mary’s Church in Lydiard Park has been withdrawn.

The church authorities wanted to replace the roof of the stable room, which is not listed itself but is in the grounds of the church and Lydiard House, which are both Grade 1 listed, with new slate tiles.

The application said the pitch of the roof did not work with then original stone tiles as it wasn’t sharp enough to shed water, and other sides of the roofing were clad in modern artificial tiles.

But planning officers weren’t convinced and after an exchange of correspondence, both applications have been withdrawn.

Blunsdon: Details of how five self-build houses might be constructed on the site of a car servicing businesses have been approv4ed.

Developer Nick Sandhu, of Lechlade, has already been given outline approval; for the demolition of the exisitng warehouse-structure on the site accessed by a lane off Turnpike Road just north of the junction with Kingsdown lane, and its replacement by five separate self-build houses.

His application, covering all five houses, with further details of his proposals has been approved.

Highworth: The owners of a bungalow at a Turnpike Road can increase the height of the building and turn it into a two-storey dwelling.

Mr and Mrs D West will be able to increase the height of the two-bedroom bungalow by about six feet, and install windows in the roof.

It will allow the new upper storey to be turned into three bedrooms and a bathroom, and the two downstairs bedrooms will be replaced by a dining room and study.

Town Centre: A plan to replace the cladding on a nice storey block of flats in the town centre has been approved.

Centrick Property has proposed replacing the cladding on the outside of Bridge House at 1 Farnsby Street at the corner with Faringdon Road with safer cladding which is not flammable.

Its application says: “The project will see the replacement of the existing combustible material used to form the external facade of the building with a non-combustible material. The works will include for the inclusion of horizontal and vertical cavity barriers at the appropriate junctions.

“From an aesthetic point of view the look of the building will remain unchanged.”

Old Town: A plan has been submitted which would see a small car park in Old Town used instead for tow houses. Mr and Mrs Ken Oliver have proposed using a large part of their back garden at 11 Hunt Street, and the small car park at the side and rear of their property for a pair of semi-detached houses.

Each house would have three bedrooms, one en suite, and a bathroom upstairs, with off-road parking at the front of the houses. Access would be from the alleyway to the car park from Hunt Street.
