A Swindon voter has raised concerns after she shared photos of what appeared to be campaign leaflets left in a polling station on polling day.

A Twitter user by the name of Kerry posted pictures and a short video of leaflets from incumbent Conservative member for Liden, Eldene and Park South, Bazil Solomon, in the lobby of Park South Community Centre.

A video shows someone picking up a small stack of leaflets from what appears to be a reception desk and going to speak to a presiding officer about them. There is also a picture of a different set of election leaflets.

The presiding officer at the polling station in Cranmore Avenue told the Local Democracy Reporting Service she was not able to say anything about the matter, and could not confirm whether there had been any leaflets in the polling station.

The Electoral Commission states that campaign material such as leaflets are not allowed in a polling station, or the building they are in, on polling day.

Coun Solomon said the presence of the leaflets must have been inadvertent.

Coun Solomon said: “I haven’t been to Park South today. And I’m not allowed into the polling stations.

“Those were leaflets that we would have left at the community centre weeks ago at the start of the campaign for people to pick up, and they should have been moved or put away before today.

“We certainly haven’t put any more in, or tried to do any campaigning. Those were old leaflets which should have been put away before polling started.”
