Swindon Borough Council's leader has lost his seat in this year's local elections.

Conservative Party representative David Renard was first elected leader of the council in 2013, and has been in charge of the local authority for longer than any other council leader, but his time in the role has come to an end.

Results announced at the Steam Museum vote counting on Friday afternoon for the Haydon Wick ward revealed that Coun Renard received 1,176 votes (36.8 per cent) while the Labour candidate, Stanka Adamcova, received 1,828 votes (57.3 per cent).

Liberal Democrat candidate Omar Muhammad received 188 votes. There was an overall turnout of 36.73 per cent out of an eligible electorate of 8,756 people, with 3,216 ballots issued.

22 ballots submitted in this ward were rejected for either being unmarked or void, or for voting for more candidates than allowed.
