A woman who appeared to impale herself on a gate at a Swindon nightclub was stuck for more than an hour before being rescued.

Emergency services were alerted to a medical incident at Tree nightclub, in Hoopers Place, Old Town, at around 1am on the morning of Sunday, May 7.

Fire crews arrived to discover a woman stuck on top of a spiked gate at the back of the club and, over the next hour and 40 minutes, freed her using cutting equipment.

She was then treated by paramedics who transported her to hospital.

The extent of the woman’s injury is unknown.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said: “At 1:08am yesterday (May 7) one fire engine from Swindon was dispatched to a commercial property in Hoopers Place, Old Town, Swindon, to reports of a member of the public stuck.

“On arrival firefighters used cutting equipment to free one female casualty from a gate. The casualty was then taken into the care of colleagues from the ambulance service and transported to hospital.

“The stop message was received at 2.48am and firefighters returned to Swindon fire station by 3am.”

On Monday, May 8, fencing had been placed in front of the gate after a section was cut away during the incident.

Tree was approached for response but declined to comment.
