A motorist has been arrested for drink driving after two others were hospitalised in a three-car crash on one of Swindon’s busiest roads.

Three vehicles were involved in a collision on the A420 near South Marston, at around 8pm on Friday, May 12.

Police rushed to the scene and arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of drink driving.

He remains in custody where he will be questioned by officers.

Two people were taken to hospital following the smash, and their injuries are not thought to be serious.

Police closed the busy road for around three hours, from the Gablecross Roundabout to Old Vicarage Lane, after the incident left it blocked to other cars.

Traffic reports indicate that the road reopened just after midnight on Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for the police said: “At around 8pm yesterday evening (May 12) we responded to a three vehicle RTC on the A420 near South Marston.

“Two people were taken to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be serious.

“A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and is currently in custody for questioning.”
