Hollywood Bowl is looking to open a bowling alley in Swindon soon.

The firm is set to take over the former home of Currys PC World in Greenbridge Retail Park next year.

The tech retailer moved out of the unit in early 2021, and then the charity Computers for Africa was allowed to temporarily operate out of the premises for a few months until Currys' lease ran out.

Now, after being left vacant for nearly two years, it seems that a new business is poised to step in and take over the site.

Tenpin Swindon at the Shaw Ridge Leisure Park is currently the only bowling alley in town - but not for much longer.

Earlier this month, The Original Bowling Company Limited submitted an application to Swindon Borough Council asking for a new premises licence that would allow it to turn Unit 15 of the retail park near Drakes Way into a Hollywood Bowl.

If approved, the bowling alley and leisure destination would be allowed to sell alcohol and provide regulated entertainment from 9am to 1am seven days a week, as well as provide late-night refreshment between 11pm and 1.30am.

The overall opening hours would be 9am to 1.30am Monday to Sunday.

Swindon Advertiser:

A Hollywood Bowl spokesman said: "We are excited to bring the unique family entertainment and competitive socialising experience of Hollywood Bowl to Swindon.

“We are in the early planning stages for transforming the current site at Greenbridge Retail and Leisure, with the aspiration to open to guests in spring 2024.

"Once complete, Hollywood Bowl Swindon will offer affordable family entertainment and feature 22 ten-pin bowling lanes, the latest and classic amusement arcades, as well as tasty food and drink.”

Swindon Advertiser:

The new addition would join Hollywood Bowl's existing centres in Bristol, Cheltenham, and Oxford.

The chain's application also proposes that all opening hours and all licensable activities would run from the start of permitted hours on New Year's Eve to the end of permitted hours on New Year's Day.
