Shocked neighbours awoke to find vandals causing chaos on a quiet Swindon street.

Residents of Southbrook Street heard people stumbling around the Ferndale area in the early hours of Sunday morning (May 21).

They looked out their windows and were stunned to see strangers smashing plant pots and trying to pry licence plates off their cars.

One neighbour on nearby Churchward Avenue told the Adver: "It's usually really quiet here, but I woke up at 4.30am to this loud noise and thought 'what the hell is going on?'.

"I looked outside and saw a man pick up a terracotta pot and smash it on the ground.

"He then crouched down, tried to pull the number plate off the front of the car in our drive, and ran off.

"There was at least one other person on the other side of the road, too. I think they were on drugs because they were acting very strangely.

"We spoke to our neighbours and they saw the same thing, it was weird."

In CCTV video given to the Adver, one man can be seen running around a corner whilst carrying an object and hugging a tree, whilst a second follows him around the corner on his hands and knees.

The first man then is seen to jump into a hedge opposite

Police are appealing for witnesses to the antisocial behaviour which occurred at around 5am on May 21.

A police spokeswoman said: "If you saw anything, have doorbell or dash cam footage from the area, or have any information that can help with our enquiries please contact us on 10 quoting reference number 54230053124."
