A new supermarket has opened in Swindon after a major £500,000 investment.

The Midcounties Co-operative set up a new branch of Your Co-op Food in the Gilbert Place housing development on Lowry Way, off Pipers Way.

It includes an in-store bakery, a Costa Coffee machine, a chilled food-to-go range, a National Lottery and PayPoint terminal, an ATM, a foodbank collection point for Swindon Food Collective, and a soft plastic recycle unit for customers to recycle crisp packets and pet food pouches.

The store's opening hours are 7am to 10pm Monday to Sunday.

The convenience store has created 15 jobs and offers essential grocery items like fruit, vegetables, fresh meat, flowers, wines, spirits, and chilled beers.

The store has been fitted with LED lighting and energy-efficient refrigeration to help reduce its impact on the environment, and all Co-op-branded packaging is recyclable.

Customers at the new store will have the option of becoming a member of the Midcounties Cooperative, giving them access to exclusive deals as well as special offers from across the Your Co-op group of businesses.

The Midcounties Co-operative is one of the largest independent UK co-operatives and is fully owned by its members

Members have a say in the society's work to support local communities in partnership with local volunteers and community groups, all of which can be accessed via the Your Co-op Membership app.

The new store has been built with an investment of more than £500,000 as part of the supermarket chain's ongoing investment in food retail.

It invested more than £3.5 million in seven new stores this year, building on its £3 million investment in 2021 which also saw seven new store openings.

The latest round of openings includes two in the Swindon area – the Pipers Way store and an Abbey Farm store that opened on Diamond Crescent last September.

Store manager Beth Murray said: “We’re so excited to be opening the doors of our brand-new convenience store on Pipers Way.

"It’s great to be investing in the local economy and creating new jobs for the area.

“We can’t wait to meet the local community and are looking forward to welcoming members and customers. I’m sure they’ll be impressed with the wide range of products and services we have on offer.”
