A bus driver who crashed into a car on a Wiltshire road has appeared in court.

Xavier Peediyakal, of Beatrice Street in Gorse Hill, pleaded guilty at Swindon Magistrates Court earlier this month to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A man suffered a serious injury after the 32-year-old drove a double-decker bus dangerously along the A3102 Snow Hill in Hillmarton at around 8am on July 12, 2022.

After the crash, a young child was saved from the BMW also involved in the collision. The youngster was in a properly-fitted car seat and did not suffer any major injuries.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust were called to the scene along with Wiltshire Police and Calne Fire Station, which sent two fire engines from Chippenham.

Police closed the road until the scene could be made safe. Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to save one man from one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

The defendant, who was behind the wheel of the double-decker, has now been released on unconditional bail ahead of his sentencing, which is due to be held at Swindon Crown Court on July 7.
