The leader of Wiltshire Council staged a Q&A session to discuss any issues in the county town - and only one person turned up.

The meeting at County Hall in Trowbridge on June 21 offered residents the opportunity to scrutinise Councillor Richard Clewer on any topic they wanted.

But Cllr Clewer said he was not disheartened by the turnout and said other such events around the county had been better attended.

He said: “It was a nice evening and people were out. We had people turn up at the Westbury meeting because of concern over the incinerator but again in Devizes there isn’t so much contention so we had fewer people.

“I don’t think at the moment there is very much contentious in Trowbridge, but the opportunity is here if people want to ask questions to find out what’s going on and what we’re doing to deal with it.

“Of course, I would like to see lots of people turning up but it didn’t go that way. In future we might avoid doing it in June.”
