People waiting for affordable homes to come onto the market in Swindon could benefit from 78 new properties that are nearing completion.

The properties on offer are inn Broad Blunsdon and Tadpole Garden Village.

GreenSquareAccord will be offering 36 properties at the latter with another 15 homes reserved for customers seeking to buy under a low-cost home ownership scheme.

Built by Wain Homes, the homes will be the last that GreenSquareAccord will be taking on at Tadpole Garden Village.

Councillor Janine Howarth, the cabinet member for housing at Swindon Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to be in partnership and enabling GreenSquareAccord to work with the developer in delivering quality affordable housing to those on the council’s waiting list.

“The council is committed to increasing the numbers of affordable housing as a key priority to support those unable to buy or rent privately.”

As part of the Blunsdon development, built by Backhouse, GreenSquareAccord will be providing at total of 27 homes.

A total of 19 of these are earmarked for “affordable” rent with a further six homes available under a shared ownership scheme.

Blunsdon’s new homes will include one-and two-bedroom apartments and two- and three-bedroom houses.

The housing association is due to make its first handovers soon.
