Heading to Fairford for the Royal International Air Tattoo? There are a few road closures in place that might affect your journey.

Thousands of people will be travelling to an RAF base in Gloucestershire this weekend. The car parks will be full and RIAT organisers are also offering free buses to the event from Swindon Bus Station and Cheltenham Racecourse.

Heavy traffic is expected on the busiest routes to the airshow, and roadworks on certain streets and carriageways could cause further delays.

The following traffic restrictions will be in place for the airshow from July 14 to 16:

-Fairford Lane And The Street Junction East C116 Towards Kempsford And County Boundary, Marston Meysey

-The Street, Marston Meysey

-Fairford Road Roundabout Northeast To County Boundary, Latton

-Cross Roads, Down Ampney

-Sliproad Onto Cirencester Road From Spine Road, Down Ampney

Leaving the Swindon bus station area could take a while as a large section of Fleming Way is currently closed while the main road is being redeveloped.

Highway maintenance is being carried out on part of the A419 near the Stratton junction.

At the Thamesdown Drive junction, work is being carried out which will realign the carriageway, kerb lines, and road markings.

Between Hannington and Kempsford, the road from the county boundary with Gloucester to the High Street is closed due to an eroded road.

To get around this, drivers must go on a diversion that is 15 miles long and leads onto the A419 due to further road works on Castle Eaton Road, which is closed for the investigation of a road collapse, void, and associated works.

The closure of Wanborough Road has often had a knock-on effect on traffic along the A419, though the road is expected to reopen on Sunday afternoon.

In Gloucestershire, there are roadworks on Thames Street in Lechlade to fix a bridge that was damaged in a road traffic collision.

On the other side of Fairford, near London Road in Poulton, there is highway maintenance work underway which will be completed by Friday evening.

Anyone driving through the Cotswolds to reach Fairford should be aware of the A417 carriageway closure southbound from Air Balloon Roundabout to Burford Road Junction for surveying, which should be finished by 6am on Friday.

Near Cheltenham and Gloucester, the M5 will be closed overnight northbound between Junctions 11 and 9 on Thursday and Friday for central reservation works.
