Thousands of aviation fans will be able to enjoy the Royal International Air Tattoo on Saturday (July 15) after organisers issued a fresh update.

A Met Office yellow weather warning for wind, the threat of a thunderstorm and the cancellation of a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight had sparked fears of a repeat of 2008, when the airshow was abandoned at the 11th hour.

Friday's flight schedule was hit heavily by poor visibility and persistent rain.

But in a series of tweets tonight, RIAT organisers confirmed the gates will be open in the morning.

The tweets read: "We understand that the weather forecast has caused concern among those who are planning on visiting this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo.

"Colleagues within our Air Operations team are in constant communication with the Met Office, who are also on site at RAF Fairford. We can confirm that having reviewed all relevant information, Saturday's RIAT will take place as planned.

"For people who are travelling to us tomorrow, we encourage them to prepare with warm and waterproof clothing, plus suitable footwear.  Make sure you have your tickets and car passes handy.

"Also, please ensure you follow our advertised routes and not your sat nav."
